Living City Block/Brooklyn, NYLiving City Block (livingcityblock.org) is pioneering an innovative, community-centered approach to block scale energy and resource efficiency in the urban environment. Living City Brooklyn Gowanus is ultimately about creating a better, economically stronger, more vibrant community by engaging blocks of owners and residents through sustainability initiatives. Our project will develop a regional and site specific approach to also emphasize stormwater, greenroofs, localized power production and urban revitalization opportunities.
Intern Responsibilities:
Be a smart motivated problem-solver dedicated to helping LCB Brooklyn Gowanus succeed.
1. Document the process of forming a Living City Block, including
a. Community mapping and outreach, engagement forums and workshops, and data collection.
b. Working through the myriad of legal, policy, business, and financial issues
2. Communicate LCB Brooklyn Gowanus initiatives to the public (from Gowanus residents to international audiences) via Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.
3. Communicate LCB Brooklyn Gowanus initiatives to the press.
4. Keep LCB Brooklyn Gowanus website updated.
Experience/Skills Desired:
1. Familiarity with and passion for low-impact development, green infrastructure, and sustainability initiatives (esp. NY-based initiatives)
2. Ability to relate to diverse community stakeholders
3. Strong writing and research skills
4. Photography and videography
5. Web-editing capabilities
6. Software: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign
