4 Facebook Page Tools For Your Small Business

From TJ McCue:

You want your business to be on Facebook, but just like creating a regular website, there are so many options. The first step is to create a "Page" because that is what customers will “like” or share with others, thus leading to more traffic and awareness for your company.

I wrote a recent post for OPEN Forum on
Facebook Likes and Shares. And if you want to learn about setting up a Facebook Page, visit this Facebook support page.

But what most of us mean when we say we want a presence on Facebook is that we want something custom. That often means a "tab" where people land and see our specific, direct message. Without a tab or some configuring, your customer or prospect will land on your Wall. You don’t want that because you don’t know what they will see first.  So, without further ado, here are 4 tools to get you on your way to a custom Facebook page and tab.

Hy.ly is a Facebook application that allows you to quickly and easily build a welcome tab without knowing any code, any FBML (the markup language Facebook used previously—now it is iFrames). The beauty of this app is that you can create an appealing landing page in minutes. Pricing starts at $1.95 per month.

Wildfire Interactive is another dynamic application and one that I have actually used for another client project. The best explanation of how to set up Wildfire came via one of my favorite Facebook experts, Mari Smith, and she guides you through the details of the iFrames and Facebook fan page structure. When I worked on that client project last year, I found their tools and service to be very helpful in growing a fan base and driving traffic to specific offers. There is a special offer going on where the app is free for the next three months according to Mari’s page.

North Social has a Facebook landing page tab creator called First Impression. It seems like a very robust application and has vivid examples right on its own Facebook landing page, of course. The company offers a 14-day free trial, and then plans start at $19 per month.

TabSite (hat tip to Jay Baer). The TabSite app for Facebook Pages has an easy-to-use WYSIWYG editor that lets you customize your new tab. You or a page admin can add photos, RSS feeds, videos, a live Twitter feed and more. You can also add a contact form and create a coupon, if you like. There is a free plan level and then a paid one that starts at $5 per month.

Two more resources for you: Kristi Hines at KissMetrics also did a wonderful review of seven cool things you can do with the new Facebook Fan Pages. You can read it here.  For a strong article about how iFrames presents some risks, read David Carr's “Facebook iFrames: Good For Business, Bad For Security?” at InformationWeek.

Please share in the comments here which Facebook Page apps you really like and use because I’m compiling a bigger list for another future post. You should also feel free to drop me a message on Twitter: @TJMcCue
